Dr. Gultekin is being honored with the IGCS Distinguished Advocacy Award for his extensive and tireless efforts to unify advocacy NGOs throughout Europe, forming ENGAGe. Together with patients and ENGAGe leaders, he has worked actively by organizing seminars, informing the advocacy groups with translated leaflets, simplifying scientific guidelines for the patients, surveys and implementing the first Gynecologic Oncology Day. As the leading founder of HPV DNA Screening, Mobile Trucks and Central Mammography Report Unit, cancer registry systems, and community-based palliative care systems he is partly responsible for major innovations have been made in cancer screening in Turkey and around the world where the programs were implemented.

About Dr. Gultekin

Dr. Gultekin is a Gynae-Oncologist and a professor working in Turkey. He has been the leading founder of HPV DNA Screening, Mobile Trucks and Central Mammography Report Unit, cancer registry systems, community based palliative care systems in Turkey and in the world. He has published hundreds of scientific research, with special focus on HPV DNA screening, prevention of gynecological cancers and patient advocacy. Dr. Gultekin is now an active advisory member to European Parliamentary Forum and to WHO in cervical cancer elimination program. He is the chair of ESGO prevention and advocacy committee.

Dr Gultekin has struggled to bring together most of the European Gynecologic Oncology Advocacy NGO’s under a single umbrella so called ENGAGe. Together with patients and ENGAGe co-chair and executives, he has worked actively by organizing seminars, informing the Advocacy groups with translated leaflets, simplifying the scientific guidelines for the patients, surveys and implementing the first Gynecologic Oncology Day. Moreover, he works continuously trying to raise awareness by organizing campaigns, fundraising and introducing participation of patient advocates in clinical trials.
