Dr. Atallah is being honored with the IGCS Excellence in Teaching Award for his commitment to education, surgical training, and research for the improvement of gynecologic cancer care. With more than 100 articles published in professional journals and over 20 years of experience, Dr. Atallah is a dedicated and respected educator and mentor for medical students, residents, fellows, and his own faculty. His commitment to education and spreading knowledge is evident throughout his career and ambitious efforts as founder of the first gynecologic oncology service in a tertiary hospital in Lebanon and the first Lebanese Gynecologic Oncology Group to update the local medical community with the latest guidelines and scientific studies.
Realizing the power of global collaboration to enhance learning opportunities, Dr. Atallah was instrumental in establishing the Middle East and Mediterranean Association of Gynecologic Oncologists’ (MEMAGO) Strategic Alliance Partnership with IGCS. He played a crucial role in the development of the MEMAGO/IGCS Project ECHO program, which is a monthly educational tumor board where trainees learn from volunteer leaders who share their expert opinions on real gynecologic cancer cases.
About Dr. Atallah
David Atallah is a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Saint Joseph University in Beirut and the Chairman of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at Hôtel-Dieu de France University Hospital. He is also head of gynecologic oncology, breast and pelvic surgery unit. Dr. Atallah has more than 20 years of professional excellence in gynecologic oncology and breast cancer fields after finishing his fellowship at one of the most well-known cancer centers in the world, Institut Gustave Roussy, a comprehensive cancer center in France. In 2000, he earned fellowship from the European Society of Surgical Oncology.
Dr. Atallah is involved in clinical research and earned a Master of Science Degree in Clinical Research Administration from the University of Liverpool, UK. His work and research are focused on advanced surgeries and translational research in ovarian cancer. He is founding member of the Lebanese Percreta Group and participates in research on ovarian cancer, HPV, and cervical cancer.
Throughout his career, he has contributed his knowledge to numerous articles in professional journals as both an author and reviewer. He has published more than 100 articles and participated actively in more than 70 regional and international medical meetings and congresses, including serving as chair of the Middle East/Africa committee at the IGCS congress (Rio 2019). He is also Editor-in-Chief of the Lebanese Medical Journal.
Dr. Atallah is an active member of numerous regional and international societies. He is founder and Vice President of the Lebanese Gynecologic Oncologic Group. He is President-Elect of the Lebanese Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is founder and General Secretary of MEMAGO (Middle East and Mediterranean Association of Gynecologic Oncologists) and played a crucial role in establishing MEMAGO’s Strategic Alliance Partnership with IGCS. In 2018, he initiated the IGCS/MEMAGO ECHO program, which is a monthly educational tumor board where trainees discuss real gynecologic cancer cases with volunteer mentors and multidisciplinary faculty. Most recently, Dr. Atallah has been elected as Council Member on the 2022-2024 IGCS Council representing the Middle East and Africa.
He has been a mentor for many generations of residents and has greatly impacted their surgical skills and knowledge in gynecologic oncology.
