Palliative Care in Disaster and Conflict Settings

Zoom Video Conference , United States

Wednesday, June 5, 2024 11:30 AM UTC Political and ethnic conflict, and geological and climatic disasters, result in suffering on a massive scale, particularly in low- and middle-income countries with fragile health care systems. Palliative care, defined most often as a response to physical, psychological, social, or spiritual suffering of those with “life-limiting illness,” is crucial for those with such illnesses in humanitarian settings. But those without life-limiting illnesses also suffer severely, due, for example, to gender-based violence or to witnessing and fleeing from extreme violence. This webinar will explore how, in humanitarian settings, palliative care can and should be true to its mission of responding to suffering without the constraint of focusing only on those with life-limiting illnesses.
