We are delighted to announce that the Ukrainian Society of Gynecologic Oncology has joined the IGCS Strategic Alliance Partner Program. Through this alliance, 30 Ukrainian gynecologic cancer specialists now benefit from dual membership, gaining support from their regional society as well as access to the vast resources and expertise of the international gynecologic cancer community.

The Ukrainian Society of Gynecologic Oncology was established in 1998 with the purpose to unite all specialists in the country and provide them with educational opportunities to facilitate even higher quality gynecologic cancer care to patients. The decision to join the IGCS alliance was influenced by the success of joint educational programs conducted by IGCS and the American Eurasian Cancer Alliance (AECA) in the region. The leaders of the Ukrainian Society recognized the transformative potential of international collaboration in elevating gynecologic cancer care in Ukraine.

According to GLOBOCAN 2022 data (gco.iarc.fr), uterine, cervical, and ovarian cancer are the 4th, 5th, and 6th most common cancers in the country with 18,691 Ukrainian women reportedly diagnosed with gynecologic cancer in 2022.

Ukrainian Society President, Dr. Valentine Svinitskiy said, “It is a great honor to join the IGCS. Despite the difficult times in our country, we do not stop evolving. With the support of the IGCS and the AECA, we will have the opportunity to provide our patients with the best gynecological oncological care in accordance with internationally accepted standards. The benefits of this alliance will open a world of possibilities for our specialists: training young professionals with world-renowned oncogynecological representatives, advancing qualifications through continuous education via IGCS’ online resources, analyzing complex clinical situations with community representatives, as well as the opportunity for sharing experiences and engaging new strategic partners — our colleagues from neighboring countries in Eastern Europe.”

We extend our sincere gratitude to the American Eurasian Cancer Alliance (AECA) and its Executive Director, Dr. Sophia Michaelson, for their instrumental role in facilitating relationships in the Eurasian region. Dr. Michaelson's dedication and passion have been evident over the years, as she played a crucial role in identifying opportunities and fostering partnerships between IGCS and the professional gynecologic cancer community throughout Eurasia.

Sophia said, “I am deeply gratified to see the Eurasian cancer control platform continue to flourish after decades of engagement with international oncology leaders. With the Ukrainian Gynecological Cancer Society joining the IGCS Strategic Alliance, we anticipate even greater advancements in gynecological cancer education, prevention, screening, and treatment in the region.”

We are pleased to welcome the Ukrainian Society of Gynecologic Oncology into the IGCS alliance and look forward to strengthening our collaborative relationship. Through partnerships such as this, we continue to make progress towards our mission and take a step closer towards a future where every woman receives the best possible care, regardless of where she lives.
