The International Gynecologic Cancer Society (IGCS) and the Society of Abdominal Radiology (SAR) are proud to announce a new collaborative partnership formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at advancing education, research, and interdisciplinary collaboration in the care of patients with gynecologic cancers.
Founded in 2012 through the merger of two premier abdominal imaging societies, SAR was built on a longstanding legacy of collaboration and expertise. Today, SAR leads advances in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of abdominal disease, with a mission centered on scientific discovery, innovation, education, and leadership development in abdominopelvic radiology.
This mission closely complements the work of IGCS, where high-quality imaging is essential at every stage of gynecologic cancer care — from early detection and staging to treatment planning and surveillance.
This partnership reflects a shared commitment to improving the diagnosis, treatment, and overall management of gynecologic malignancies through stronger integration between gynecologic oncology and abdominal radiology. By bringing together expertise from both specialties, IGCS and SAR seek to foster innovation in imaging, clinical care, and scientific discovery that will ultimately improve patient outcomes worldwide.
The organizations will collaborate on a range of educational initiatives, including joint webinars, workshops, courses, conference programming, faculty exchanges, and the development of shared scientific content. The partnership will also support the exchange of best practices and encourage collaborative research efforts that integrate clinical and imaging expertise.
"This collaboration represents an important step forward in strengthening multidisciplinary care for women with gynecologic cancers," said Dr. Nadeem Abu-Rustum, President Elect of the IGCS. "Imaging plays a critical role across the entire continuum of gynecologic cancer care, and by working closely with our colleagues in abdominal radiology, we can enhance education, promote innovation, and ultimately improve outcomes for patients globally."
"SAR is excited to partner with IGCS in building meaningful educational and scientific collaborations between our specialties," said Dr. David H. Kim, President of SAR. "Radiology and gynecologic oncology are deeply interconnected, and this partnership creates new opportunities to advance multidisciplinary learning, research, and patient-centered care."
This partnership and framework creates a sustainable cooperation grounded in mutual respect, transparency, and a shared dedication to excellence in patient care, professional development, and scientific advancement.
Warm regards,

Mary Eiken, MS
