Dear IGCS Members,
We have been made aware of emails circulating that falsely appear to come from IGCS leadership, including our current President, Prof. Greta Dreyer. These messages are fraudulent and did not originate from IGCS or IGCS leadership.
These are phishing emails— fraudulent messages designed to look like they come from a trusted source.
We believe individuals may have been targeted because their names appear on the IGCS website as leaders, faculty, mentors, or program participants. While IGCS does not publish personal email addresses on our website, sophisticated scammers sometimes use publicly available names and affiliations to create convincing impersonation attempts. Or they may search to find your email address posted on other websites.
Please note:
- IGCS and our leaders will never ask you to make a personal wire transfer, send funds from your personal account, share passwords, or provide sensitive financial information via email.
- Official IGCS communications regarding membership dues, conference registration, and fundraising efforts will only come from official IGCS addresses (e.g., igcs@igcs.org) or from our professional conference organizer, Kenes Group (e.g., igcs.reply@kenesgroup.com), and will direct you to secure online payment platforms.
- Unexpected requests involving financial transfers, especially those creating urgency or requesting reimbursement, should be treated as suspicious.
If you receive a suspicious email:
- Do not click any links or reply.
- Forward the message to igcs@igcs.org so we can be made aware of the attempt.
- Delete the message after reporting it.
Please know that we take your internet security seriously and are actively monitoring this situation. We appreciate your vigilance in helping protect the IGCS community.
With thanks,
Mary Eiken, MS
IGCS CEO
