The International Gynecologic Cancer Society (IGCS) is proud to partner with the International Cancer Control Partnership (ICCP) in the launch of a new global map of national cervical cancer elimination strategies and an expanded resource hub designed to support countries working toward the WHO 90:70:90 targets by 2030, as a meaningful step on the path to elimination of cervical cancer globally. The official launch took place during the 2026 Cancer Planners Forum on May 14— an invitation-only gathering of global cancer control leaders, policymakers, and national cancer planners convened by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), focused on strengthening national cancer control planning worldwide.
Hosted by UICC on behalf of 29 organizational partners, the ICCP portal has served as a trusted global platform for cancer control planning resources since 2012. Through this new collaboration with IGCS, the portal now includes expanded cervical cancer-specific resources and a global map highlighting whether a country has or does not have a publicly available national cervical cancer elimination strategy. Together, these tools are intended to help countries:
  • Learn from national strategies already being implemented
  • Access practical tools and resources across the continuum of prevention and care
  • Strengthen their own planning and implementation efforts aligned with the WHO elimination strategy
  • Accelerate collaboration between policymakers, clinicians, advocates, and partners
In preparation for the launch IGCS conducted a global mapping of all resources on cervical cancer prevention and control since 2020, with the support of the University of Sydney team led by Professor Karen Canfell. “We were amazed to identify over 240 new tools and resources which will inspire and mobilise all countries, especially those with the highest burden of cervical cancer and women at risk of this preventable and treatable disease, to develop their own cervical cancer elimination strategy” says Canfell. Julie Torode, PhD, who leads this work for IGCS and facilitates the IGCS ACCESS initiative, emphasized the importance of shared learning and visibility: “Countries can now explore how their peers are approaching cervical cancer elimination, identify practical resources, and adapt successful models to their own settings. This kind of collaboration is essential if we are going to achieve elimination globally.” This work directly correlates to IGCS’ Strategic Pillars and supports the vision of the IGCS ACCESS Series (Accelerating Cervical Cancer Elimination Strategies Symposia), a multi-year initiative designed to help transform global commitments into measurable national progress. The new partnership builds on the extraordinary foundation ICCP has created for global cancer control planning. We hope these resources gathered in one place will help countries move more quickly from commitment to action. IGCS will continue working with ICCP to expand and update the resource hub over time, while encouraging members and partners to contribute tools, strategies, and implementation experiences that may help other countries advance their own efforts. Please explore the new platform and share these resources in your networks. Cervical cancer elimination is possible, but only through collaboration, shared learning, and sustained action. We hope these new tools help countries feel more connected, supported, and empowered as they advance their own elimination efforts. With gratitude,
Mary Eiken Chief Executive Officer International Gynecologic Cancer Society (IGCS)
