As we come to the close of the year, my heart is full. I am deeply grateful for the privilege of serving as your President and for the passion, resilience, and generosity this community continues to show in advancing gynecologic cancer care around the world!

First IGCS global meeting in Africa

Not every president gets the opportunity to host the meeting so close to home, and the Cape Town IGCS2025 meeting was a personal highlight for me. It was deeply meaningful to have the first-ever global IGCS congress in Africa and we aimed for the program to cover locally relevant issues, while also retaining global significance. Colleagues travelled from 98 countries to attend, and many members from the hosting region supported and attended. I trust you all found that the scientific program reached these goals and that the social program was enriching and energizing!

My sincere appreciation goes to our scientific program chairs and committee, the dedicated IGCS and Kenes staff and everyone from the local society whose contributions and tireless work made the meeting such a success. Thank you also to all who traveled to Cape Town, South Africa - it was an absolute privilege to welcome you to my part of the world! I know many of you planned to stay in the region to explore this beautiful country and I hope it was a most enjoyable time. For those who could not join us this year, I truly hope to welcome you to IGCS2026 in Montreal in October and perhaps also to South Africa someday…

Initiatives and growth during 2025

At the meeting I highlighted the significant growth across IGCS programs this last year. In line with our strategic pillars and with the vision shared at the end of last year, we launched and expanded important initiatives. We increased regional collaboration and communication, built our strategic alliances, and strengthened existing programs for education, mentorship and training and advocacy. We created new opportunities for our growing multidisciplinary membership to learn, collaborate, and lead, while also expanding our surgical training options and footprint. Strengthened policies aim to ensure global representation, transparency, equity and good governance.

Looking back on the year, I am rewarded by the journey we have shared. I am especially grateful to all the office bearers, the Board of Directors and Committee Members, who give so generously their time, expertise, and leadership. Their guidance continues to steer our society with intention and integrity. I encourage you to visit igcs.org/news to read more about these initiatives and stay up to date in 2026.

Global membership with a shared mission

Finally, I want to acknowledge the many visits I undertook and meetings I attended on behalf of IGCS in past months. Thank you to all groups and societies who invited and hosted us and apologies for invitations I could not accept. Meeting our members, partners, and friends around the world is a huge privilege, and reminds me how extraordinary this community is.

Everyone who works with dedication to advance our mission, inspires me and reaffirms the importance of the work we do together. Thank you for all you do for IGCS and for the patients we serve.

May the festive season bring you and your loved ones peace and renewal, and may the new year start with fresh energy and be filled with hope!

Warm regards,

Prof. Greta Dreyer
