Our patients and our members are each unique The truest intention of the World Cancer Day theme is possibly to look closer at the individual people affected by cancer and to intentionally recognize each of their unique stories, responses, and needs. They share similar, yet distinct experiences navigating the many challenges of cancer diagnosis and often share a passion to be powerful advocates for change. Their resilience and determination inspire us to push boundaries and work towards a future where health science and systems meet real-world needs of everyone affected by cancer. I invite you to be inspired by the unique patient experiences shared as Voices of Hope in the Advocacy section of our website, as well as our Advocacy events! Our members are also diverse and each unique in many ways. Dispersed across the globe, our members range from early career to retired, they navigate different health systems, each shaped by unique life experiences, cultures, and perspectives. Additionally, IGCS is intentionally focusing on being a multidisciplinary society, bringing together clinicians of varied specialties, researchers, allied health workers, and advocates with an array of skills and expertise. The collective effort within institutions and communities to embrace and utilize all disciplines involved in cancer care, is intended to finally result in integrated people-centered care. Uniting our patients and members makes IGCS unique
As a truly global society, IGCS celebrates diversity, but the organization also emphasizes unity. Recognizing the value of various perspectives, we strive for an environment where everyone feels included, respected and comfortable to contribute. This milieu contributes to fresh insights and effective problem-solving while the bonding factor is the communal aim - the task at hand. Indeed, the fact that our members really share a purpose, mission and vision, is probably the strongest uniting factor in our society. This same goal is also shared by our patients, guest members and partners – uniting us all in the fight against disease. Our harmony is most evident in the success of our programs. The membership model includes individuals, as well as national, regional and discipline specific groups, and Strategic Alliance Partners. Increased collaboration within and between our member groups and world regions aims to unify, empower and celebrate their contributions. The mentorship and training programs are intentionally designed to foster mentorship and personalized connections. The programs create opportunities for members to contribute towards impactful, sustainable change, and address critical training gaps. Education360 already reaches all corners of the world – now we follow that up by having our 2025 Annual Global Meeting in Africa for the first time. The Cape Town 2025 multidisciplinary annual global educational event confirms our commitment to diversity but aims to unify us and become a home for all members. I extend a warm welcome to you for Cape Town, November 2025 on behalf of the Rainbow Nation! So, on this World Cancer Day let us remember that while each of us may be unique in our journeys, let us be united in our destination – a brighter future for those affected by gynecologic cancers. Uniquely yours, |
