Dr. Tom Randall, a dedicated member of the IGCS since 2017, is running the Philadelphia Marathon on November 24 to raise awareness and funds for the IGCS World of Hope Fund and the Global Gynecologic Oncology Fellowship Program. As Chair of the Fellowship Program and the lead international mentor for IGCS fellowships in Haiti and Rwanda, Dr. Randall is committed to supporting educational resources for trainees and local faculty, ensuring they are equipped to deliver high-quality care in underserved regions. A Few Words from Tom
My passion for teaching gynecologic oncology in low-resource settings is rooted in the belief that every woman with gynecologic cancer deserves safe and effective care, regardless of her background or available resources. The existing evidence base, primarily derived from studies of women of European ancestry in high-resource environments, often fails to address the unique needs of diverse populations. To bridge this gap, we must build robust research capacity in these settings, empowering local healthcare providers with relevant knowledge to improve patient outcomes.
As an academic physician, I see the academic medical center as a vital force for good in our communities. Through compassionate care, we address immediate health needs while fostering empathy and respect. Additionally, by creating new knowledge through research, we can find innovative solutions tailored to local challenges. Finally, as an economic engine, academic medical centers drive growth and stability. By combining these elements, we can enhance the health and well-being of our communities, ensuring that every woman receives the care she deserves.
