For too long, women’s reproductive health has been wrapped in shame, silence, and stigma—and it’s costing lives.
One of IGCS’ 2025 Uterine Cancer Awareness Month initiatives, in collaboration with AstraZeneca, is to highlight stigmas around uterine cancer by hearing directly from patients and caregivers. This project aims to raise awareness of the hidden struggles, stigmas, and misconceptions women with uterine (endometrial or womb) cancer face. We invited patients, survivors, and caregivers to share personal perspectives on this important topic, by filling in an anonymous survey.
Based on the insights gathered through this survey, IGCS and AstraZeneca have developed a video that highlights patients’ and caregivers’ experiences with the problems and barriers that arise from the stigma, shame, and misinformation associated with gynecologic cancers (specifically uterine cancer). This video features the anonymous responses.
Break the Silence
Stigma and misconceptions surrounding uterine cancer can impact women around the world.
Together with patient advocacy organizations from the IGCAN, we collected statements from those personally affected by uterine cancer.
Nearly half of the women who took the survey said they experienced stigma, shaming or misunderstanding – from loved ones and doctors alike.
Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to all the incredible women who shared their experiences. With the incidence and mortality of endometrial cancer on the rise, we need to raise awareness and push back against the stigmas that stand in the way of earlier diagnosis.
This video project is a collaboration between IGCS, IGCAN & AstraZeneca.
