Applications now open for IJGC Editor-in-Chief to commence in 2027

The International Gynecologic Cancer Society (IGCS) and the European Society of Gynaecological Oncology (ESGO) are now accepting applications for a new Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Gynecological Cancer (IJGC).

Position: Editor-in-Chief

Appointment: 5 years (2027-2032) with the possibility for extension

About the Journal
The International Journal of Gynecological Cancer (IJGC) is the official scientific journal of IGCS and ESGO. The journal publishes research and reviews and is a primary source for education and information on topics relevant to the detection, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of gynecologic malignancies. The readership includes gynecologists, gynecological oncologists, medical and radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, and research scientists with a special interest in gynecologic cancers. The Journal publishes approximately 12 issues per year with several supplements and has an Impact Factor of 4.5 and CiteScore of 6.6.

About the Role
The Editor-in-Chief will work closely with the IGCS and ESGO represented by the joint Journal Committee and with the Publisher.  The primary responsibilities include:

ENGAGEMENT, STRATEGY & PERFORMANCE

  • Work with the IGCS and ESGO to develop and execute a clear vision for the journal and enhance the quality of published science.
  • Define goals, monitor journal metrics and implement strategies for improvement.
  • Interact with the Publisher to facilitate efficient journal operations, including manuscript processing, production timelines, policy implementation, and strategic growth initiatives.

EDITORIAL BOARD & POLICIES

  • Define and enforce editorial policies, including ethical publishing standards, conflict-of-interest disclosures, and peer-review integrity.
  • Recruit, mentor and manage Associate Editors and Editorial Board members who bring diverse expertise and international representation 
  • Consider and develop initiatives that can modernize and optimize the publication and editorial processes.

SOLICITING SCIENTIFIC CONTENT

  • Solicit high-quality research manuscripts and promote the journal as the primary scientific platform for research output in the field.
  • Solicit high-quality educational content such as state-of-the-art reviews and clinical guidelines that align with the societies’ objectives.

PEER REVIEW & SCIENTIFIC QUALITY

  • Oversee peer review and ensure timely decisions on submitted work via the Associate Editors and editorial board.
  • Manage the IJGC Article Line-Up Schedule, ensuring a well-balanced and strategic selection of articles for each issue
  • Manage any concerns of scientific or ethical misconduct

SPECIAL PROJECTS

  • Determine appropriate journal content to engage readership through platforms such as the IJGC Podcast series, IJGC Journal Clubs, and other digital initiatives.
  • Oversee and coordinate the IJGC Fellowship program, ensuring that it remains a valuable training opportunity for emerging leaders in the field.

PROMOTION & MARKETING

  • Act as global ambassador for the journal, promoting the journal to the ESGO and IGCS Societies, authors, readership, and subscribers.
  • Consider and enact marketing initiatives in collaboration with the Publisher to improve scientific and financial performance of the journal.

Desired Qualifications

  • MD or equivalent degree with extensive experience in a field related to the journal’s scope
  • Recognition as a leader with a strong international reputation in gynecologic oncology
  • Prior experience as an editor of a reputable journal with extensive experience authoring and editing peer-reviewed scholarly journals
  • Demonstrated scholarship in advancing fields relevant to IGCS/ESGO and the content areas of the journal
  • Deep understanding of publication ethics and international publishing guidelines
  • Native English speaker or near-native proficiency
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Broad network of international professional contacts relevant to the content areas of gynecologic oncology

Conflict of Interest
To avoid conflicts of interest and ensure editorial independence, the IJGC Editor-in-Chief applicant is not permitted to hold any concurrent editorial leadership roles (e.g., Editor-in-Chief, Associate Editor) in other scientific journals. This policy safeguards the integrity, focus, and impartiality of the editorial process.

Time Commitment
Estimated to be approximately 12 – 16 hours per week.
