Saudi Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SSGO) Partnership

IGCS Members and Friends, I am pleased to announce that the Saudi Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SSGO) has joined the International Gynecologic Cancer Society's Strategic Alliance Partner Program. Established as an independent scientific society in 2026, SSGO builds upon a long-standing foundation within the Saudi Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Its formation marks an important milestone for the specialty in Saudi Arabia, bringing together multidisciplinary professionals under a dedicated national organization. SSGO has an ambitious vision for its future, including expanding professional education and fellowship training, advancing clinical research, developing national guidelines, increasing cancer awareness and prevention efforts, and improving multidisciplinary, patient-centered care.

IGCS President Dr. Nadeem Abu-Rustum welcomed the new partnership: "While IGCS connects professionals and shares expertise across borders, it is national societies that understand the needs of their healthcare communities and can put that knowledge into practice. By working together, we can strengthen these societies and support meaningful progress in gynecologic cancer care where it matters most."

Through this partnership, SSGO members will gain access to IGCS educational resources, mentorship and professional development opportunities, and a global network of colleagues, while contributing their own expertise and perspectives.

Dr. Khalid Akkour, SSGO President, reflected on the significance of the new society: "Our Society's establishment comes at an important time for cancer care in Saudi Arabia and the broader Gulf region. With uterine cancer incidence rising and the overall cancer burden expected to grow, we have an important role to play in advancing prevention, research, clinical standards, and multidisciplinary care. We look forward to working with IGCS and our international colleagues to pursue these goals."
