Welcome Ukrainian Society of Gynecologic Oncology
We are delighted to announce that the Ukrainian Society of Gynecologic Oncology has joined the IGCS Strategic Alliance Partner Program. Through this alliance, 30 Ukrainian gynecologic cancer specialists now benefit from dual membership, gaining support from their regional society as well as access to the vast resources and expertise of the international gynecologic cancer community. The Ukrainian Society of Gynecologic Oncology was established in 1998 with the purpose to unite all specialists in the country and provide them with educational opportunities to facilitate even higher quality gynecologic cancer care to patients. The decision to join the IGCS alliance was influenced by the success of joint educational programs conducted by IGCS and the American Eurasian Cancer Alliance (AECA) in the region. The leaders of the Ukrainian Society recognized the transformative potential of international collaboration in elevating gynecologic cancer care in Ukraine. According to GLOBOCAN 2022 data (gco.iarc.fr), uterine, cervical, and ovarian cancer are the 4th, 5th, and 6th most common cancers in the country with 18,691 Ukrainian women reportedly diagnosed with gynecologic cancer in 2022. IGCS Members have the extinction of cervical cancer in their sights, aiming to eradicate the disease by training a multitude of specialists armed with the knowledge to prevent, treat, and spread this live-saving information worldwide. Through the IGCS’ mentorship and training programs, we’ve been able to formalize a training curriculum to do just that.
The Women Global Cancer Initiative and the Chuang Family have each pledged multi-year grants to support the IGCS Global Gynecologic Oncology Fellowship Program. This program is a sustainable solution increasing the capacity for quality gynecologic cancer care and research, now being utilized at 20 training sites in low-resource settings.
The IGCS Global Gynecologic Oncology Fellowship Program is expanding to even more locations – bringing subspecialty training to regions of the world that urgently need skilled professionals. The newest training sites adopting our curriculum this past year are in Haiti, Rwanda, and Nigeria (Enugu, Ibadan, Lagos, and Zaria).
IGCS is expanding its Strategic Alliance Partnership to the country of Georgia and the Caucasus region. the Kazakh Cancer Society and the American Eurasian Cancer Alliance —we’ll combine our outreach efforts to further develop the field of gynecologic oncology within the region, a goal that our colleagues in Georgia are eager to achieve.
