Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute & Saroj Gupta Cancer Centre and Research Institute Kolkata, India
Kolkata Gynecological Oncology Trials and Translational Research Group (KolGoTrg) is the lead provider for the in-country training program in India for IGCS Global curriculum. Established in 2018, KolGOTrg is a not-for- profit registered society and a registered SIRO (Scientific Industrial Research Organisation) in India, and Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Collaborating Centre for Excellence (CCOE) dedicated for women's cancer research, education and training. It is a collaborative platform for clinicians and scientists in the region to develop and conduct studies suited mostly to address research questions and solutions specific for low-middle income countries and local unmet needs. We are the only GCIG (Gyn Cancer Intergroup) full member group from India and are currently engaged in several projects with IGCS including the Global curriculum and mentorship program in India and Nepal, Every women study, nursing curriculum development and research development through CCRN and GCIG.
Our in-country IGCS training program follows “TRAIN THE TRAINERS” approach, aiming to develop next generation local mentors and future IGCS Leaders in gynecological oncology The pilot program follows a ‘HUB-AND SPOKE model with KolGOTrg being the ‘HUB’ with a Program Director and KolGOTrg faculty members, and individual sites where the fellows are based acting as a ‘SPOKE’ with local mentors.

Site 1: CNCI: The Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute (CNCI) in Kolkata is one of India's premier cancer treatment and research centers. Established in 1950, it is dedicated to the comprehensive management of cancer, prevention, early detection, treatment, education, and research. CNCI has a rich legacy of excellence in gynecological cancer care, including development of the Mitra’s operation in radical hysterectomy.
Site 2: SAROJ GUPTA CANCER CENTRE AND RESEARCH INSTITUTE: Our institute, located in Kolkata, Eastern India, is the second in-centre training site in the region. Established in 1973, a not for profit, philanthropic organization operates as a trust hospital dedicated to providing affordable and comprehensive cancer care. The center is equipped with a full range of services, including surgical and gynecological oncology.

Dr. Asima Mukhopadhyay
Asima Mukhopadhyay is a Clinician Scientist and Gynaecological Oncologist (surgeon) working in the UK (James Cook University Hospital) and in the India (Founder and Director, Kolkata Gynecological Oncology Trials and Translational Research group- IGCS Organisational Partner). She obtained her MBBS from Medical College, Kolkata; MD from All India Institute of Medical Sciences New Delhi (Gold Medal); Speciality training in O& G and Gynaecological Oncology (NGOC, Gateshead), MSc in Clinical trials (London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine) and a PhD (Faculty of Medical Sciences, Newcastle University). Her key areas of interest are developing cytoreductive surgery programs, translational research in DNA repair and PARP inhibitor, and clinical trials.
