Training Site in Malawi

In May 2024, Malawi Fellow, Dr. Lameck Chinula visited UNC Chapel Hill. He observed surgery, visited the chemotherapy clinic and radiation oncology clinic and attended conferences with Dr. Linda Van Lee, Dr. Olivia Lara and the nurses and fellows at Chapel Hill. 

"I indeed had an awesome time in Chapel Hill. It was great to see how an academic teaching gyn oncology unit operates. The team spirit was impeccable, not to talk about the complexity of some surgeries that I was able to observe. What stood out was one ovarian cancer case where primary tumor debulking including hysterectomy, ovarian tumor resection, bowel resection and primary anastomosis, resection of a tumor from the right diaphragm, splenectomy were done. The time spent was worthy it. Nicky, the cancer service therapy dog was a unique experience too. I extend my warm regards to all faculty, fellows, residents and nursing staff I interacted with."
