Earth Day 2026

Environmental impact Each year on April 22, the world pauses to reflect on our relationship with the planet we share. As cancer professionals, we are trained to think carefully about harm — how to minimize it, how to prevent it, and how to weigh the costs and benefits of every intervention. It is time we apply that same rigor to the environmental impact of the care we deliver. Modern cancer care is among medicine’s greatest achievements. It is also among its most resource-intensive. The energy demands of imaging and radiation technologies, the volume of single-use instruments and materials, the carbon footprint of clinical travel and supply chains — these are not incidental features of our work. They are embedded in how we practice, and they deserve our attention. This is not a simple problem, and I am not here to prescribe simple solutions. What I do believe is that awareness is where change begins — and that our community is well-positioned to lead this conversation. Learning from each other Across the global gynecologic oncology community, I see reasons for genuine optimism. In many resource-constrained settings, clinicians already practice with a remarkable degree of efficiency — doing more with less, maintaining quality, and demonstrating daily that sustainable care is not a future aspiration but a present reality. Rewriting Cancer

IGCS was approached by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) to be featured in their Rewriting Cancer film series, produced for them by BBC StoryWorks Commercial Productions. Being selected for the series is a tremendous recognition of our flagship Gynecologic Oncology Global Fellowship Program — and of the extraordinary work happening across all 23 fellowship sites worldwide.

Remembering Dicey

With a heavy heart, we relay the news that Mary “Dicey” Jackson Scroggins passed away on Monday, August 1st. The news of her death comes just a few weeks away from her 26th ovarian cancer survivorship anniversary.

GSF Partnership

IGCS has entered a strategic partnership with The Global Surgery Foundation. Our missions intersect in our goals to develop oncologic expertise locally and provide surgical and medical care, participate in research, and provide education related gynecologic cancer treatment where the need is the greatest.

Project GEOCC

The goal of Project GEOCC is to assess current practices, access to, and standards of care globally, and ultimately use this information to strive towards achieving equality and equity in care for all women affected by ovarian cancer. Please participate in our study.

IGCS Advocacy Committee

We are pleased to announce that we have assembled an Advocacy Committee with the goal to advance gynecologic cancer awareness in alignment with our mission by guiding, supporting, and overseeing the International Gynecologic Cancer Advocacy Network as well as other advocacy initiatives, programs, and events.
